Charlie Claims Two Wins at Barcelona Reuniting with Elite Motorsport
Charlie delivered an impressive performance at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend, securing two race victories during a one-off guest entry at the final round of the GT4 Winter Series.
The event also marked a return to familiar territory for him, reuniting with Elite Motorsport, the team he previously raced with during his time in the Ginetta Junior Championship. Having begun an important chapter of his racing career with the outfit, the weekend provided an opportunity to reconnect with the team that played a key role in his early development.
Despite not contesting the championship itself, the outing proved a valuable opportunity to showcase pace and race craft, with the team quickly establishing themselves as the benchmark throughout the weekend.
Strong Pace from the Outset
Running began on Thursday and Friday with testing and free practice sessions around the Barcelona circuit. From the first laps, Charlie and teammate McKenzie Creswell showed strong pace, consistently running at the front of the field and setting the fastest times of both days of testing.
Saturday: Sprint Race Victory
Saturday afternoon’s sprint race provided the first major result of the weekend.
Starting third on the grid, Charlie settled quickly into the race before closing in on the leaders as the race progressed. The decisive moment came in the opening laps with a confident move around the outside of the lead Mercedes, allowing him to take the lead.
From there, Charlie controlled the race and extended his advantage, crossing the line to secure a well-earned race victory with an impressive 8 second lead, and the fastest lap to boot.
Sunday Morning Setback
Sunday morning’s race saw teammate McKenzie Creswell line up on pole position, putting the team in a strong position for another result.
However, an incident on the opening lap pushed Creswell off into the gravel at Turn 1. After a determined recovery drive back through the field, where he made up over 10 places, contact from a chasing Mercedes later in the race caused a spin that left the car beached in the gravel.
The incident forced a retirement and left the team with significant damage to repair ahead of the final race.
Sunday Finale: Dominant Team Performance
Thanks to an outstanding turnaround by the mechanics, the car was ready for the final race of the weekend.
Starting from 3rd on the grid, Cresswell moved up to 2nd at the start of the race, running 1-2 with the sister #77 car of Reynolds & Green. Delivering the car to Charlie in a comfortable in a perfectly timed pit stop that saw them take the race lead from the pit lane. From there Charlie sailed to victory taking win no.2 of the weekend. The result also sealed a 1st and 2nd place lockout for the team, rounding off a highly successful guest appearance at Barcelona.
With two race wins and outright pace throughout the event, the weekend served as a powerful demonstration of the team’s capability and Charlie’s performance behind the wheel.
While the entry was a one-off appearance, the result leaves Barcelona as a standout highlight and an encouraging sign of what lies ahead, with news on Charlie’s 2026 season plans coming very soon.
